  • Currently working on a project for the Customs and Border Protection to design new user interfaces, transition existing mainframe system screens to new designs, and integrate existing Java Swing application interfaces with new concepts and design. Participate in full application life-cycle, from requirements gathering to use-case design to interface design and specification. Responsible for all levels of prototypes and wireframes through final specifications. Work closely with business and technical teams to ensure successful product specification, design, and implementation. Also work closely with customer using iterative design process.

  • Previously provided Web and print design services to Avectra, Inc., a software development company that serves the independent association community. Responsibilities include developing interfaces for the company's Web-based content management system and making regular contributions to the corporate Web site. Duties also include designing print collateral, booth signage, advertisements, and email templates.

  • Recently developed an ecommerce site for Prizelawn spreaders, which are manufactured by PSB Company in Columbus, Ohio.

  • For Mandarin Oriental Hotels, developed the Travel Agent and Magazine Contest parts of their Web site.

  • Redesigned the corporate marketing Web site for SynXis Corporation using Flash, JavaScript, DHTML navigation menus, and original artwork. Also redesigned the entire GUI for Book-A-Rez, an Internet reservation booking engine.

  • Facilitated the launch and long-term maintenance of the Cooperative.com Finance Community. Duties included structuring and migrating content to the community section of site as well as testing bulletin board, chat, newsgroup, and other communication vehicles.

  • Won a contract to redesign a corporate Web site for Spence-Chapin, including restructuring the current navigation scheme to improve usability, converting image-based menus to text-based, JavaScript menus, and adding new content provided by the client.

User Interface Manager: Aug. 1999 to April 2001
OneSoft Corp., McLean, VA

  • Led and coordinated the prototyping and design of the user interface for OneSoft, an XML-based e-commerce application. Had primary responsibility for the graphical look and feel of the application, from concept development through delivery of the final product, as well as interface structure, workflow, and navigation. Using user-centered design methodology, produced workflow diagrams, user scenarios, and paper and interactive prototypes.

  • Conducted usability testing, making assessments for existing and future features of the application. Developed scenarios illustrating how users interact with OneSoft4.

  • Captured requirements from product marketing, sales, and other areas of the company and translated them into a user interaction model.

Sr. Manager, Intranet Development: Jan. 1998 to July 1999
WinStar Communications, Inc., McLean, VA

  • Created original graphics for the Broadband Services Intranet, developing the entire user interface and site structure.

  • Coordinated content development and directed staff in research and writing of materials for site, coding HTML, and testing. Also directed contractual employees in database development.

  • Developed WinStar University, a corporate training tool for off-site staff. Designed the structure, navigation, graphics, and page layout for the entire site.

  • Developed interactive training courses and job aids, from original writing to creating graphics, coding in HTML, and animating with Flash.

Mgr., Intranet Development and Web Design: June 1996 to Dec. 1997
Online Resources Corp., McLean, VA

  • Developed an extensive online documentation management and presentation system for the corporate Intranet. Managed content development and technical administration and designed user interfaces.

  • Working closely with software developers, helped develop transactional interfaces and online help for financial and e-commerce applications.

  • Developed online documentation for various areas of the company, creating user interfaces and original content.

Mgr., Documentation Design: Jan. 1995 to March 1996
TCS Management Group, Inc., Nashville, TN

  • Working with the software development team, helped redesign a complex custom application for managing employees. As a user advocate, worked directly with application developers to create and test the user interface. Also wrote online help for the application.

  • Wrote online help in support of other custom applications, consolidating technical information from numerous documents.

  • Wrote a style guide for corporate documentation that set forth standards for page layout and design.
